Lorenda “Rene” Haynes played high school basketball as a guard for The Wellington School from 1999-2003. She was 1st Team All-District for 4 consecutive years and was selected District Player of the Year as a junior and senior. Rene’s All-State honors: Special Mention - freshman, 2nd Team - sophomore, and 1st Team - junior and senior years. Rene played guard for the Michigan State Spartans, earning a spot on the BigTen All-Freshman Team in 2004. Sophomore Year: 2005-2007 Team Captain, 2005 BigTen Champions, BigTen Tournament Champs, NCAA Final Four Runner-up, BigTen Honorable Mention, Junior Year: NCAA Sweet Sixteen, Played on the BigTen Foreign Tour Team, Senior Year: 2nd Team All-BigTen, All-BigTen Defensive Team, finished with 135 career games, the most in MSU history, member of the winningest senior class in school history with 103 wins.
Played professionally for: Pro Build –Lions (Netherlands), Lapperanta-Catz (Finland), FoA (Finland). Team Honors: Finish League Champions – Catz 2009. She was assistant coach at Florida State University and is now on the staff at Duke University as assistant basketball coach.
