Keith Neal graduated from Columbus Central HS in 1972 where he played basketball for the Pirates under the guidance of Coach Al Bowen. As a senior Keith led his team in scoring and was the leagues 2nd leading scorer with a earned 25ppg average. He was selected for All-District honors while guiding the Pirates to the 1972 District Championship. Keith Neal played basketball at Hill Jr. College in Hillsboro, Texas where he earned All-League honors representing the Rebels. After his collegiate career, Keith played in the Columbus Old Timers’ League and then a stint in a Pro-Am NBA Winter League for Temple University sponsored team in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His successes include: he has been the Executive Director of the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center, Assistant Basketball Coach at Columbus West HS, helping the Cowboys achieve three consecutive City League Championships (‘98, ‘99, ‘00). Keith also has 32 years experience as a Class I Basketball Referee. He has an extensive list of community service involvements and has received many awards in recognition of those activities. Aside from his past as a basketball player, coach and referee, Keith Neal has also been a trainer, a mentor, a poet, and has established a street ministry. His contributions to sports and his community have been plentiful.
