Recognition
Joe moved to Columbus from the south and enrolled at Champion Jr. High where he excelled in the classroom then moved on to Columbus East High. Playing forward/center for the Tigers, in his junior year led the team to a 26-1 record, and a #1 state ranking. After graduating from East in 1956, Joe went on to play basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes where he was a co-captain on the 25-3 NCAA National Championship team. He had a stint in semi-professional basketball as a player/coach with the Columbus Comets, advancing to runner-up in the league finals. Joe was the 21st overall player chosen in the 1960 NBA draft by the Syracuse Nationals. Joe Roberts now resides in Oakland, California and is currently broker/owner of Joe Roberts & Associates Realty and is also teacher/coach at Alameda County Juvenile Hall.
