EAST HIGH 1951 STATE CHAMPIONS

2013 GCBLA inductee

Recognition
In 1951 when the East High Tigers took to the court, it was a display of complete and total dominance. Team after team failed to find the key to unlock the grip that the orange and black had on high school basketball in Columbus and the state of Ohio. After winning their first state title, East High was now in position to establish a model that was to be repeated in future years and was especially evident in the late 1960’s. To date, East has won 5 State Titles and was rapidly running out of space to hang the banner collection. Key to the success of the 1951 team was due greatly to the talents and chemistry of the starting five players plus the first man off the bench.  The talent rotation was such that East enjoyed a “starting six” in the person of Roland Harris, Dick Linson, Bill Truss, Rommie Watkins, Fred Andrews and Bernie Granger. These Tigers were for real!
