Charles Barton’s first professional job as a basketball player began in Switzerland in 1974 where he played for 1year then he played for 7 more seasons in Sweden.  Coaching Career: Sweden 1984-99 (different clubs Solna Basket, Plannja, Boras and Magic Johnson’s M7), 7 National Finals... 5 times National Champions, 4 times National Cup Champions, Coach of the year twice, Swedish National Team Head Coach.

Career Highlights

  • Barton was the First African American to coach the Swedish Mens National Team. The first African American Head Coach in all the club teams.  
  • 2000-01 Danish National Team.  
  • Magic Johnson’s Great Danes (Magic Johnson’s team in the NBDL).  
  • 2001-03 as Associate Head Coach (David Blatt was the Head Coach) of Maccabi Tel Aviv/ Israel. Maccabi is one of Europe’s top clubs.  
  • 2 Times National Champions.  2 Times National Cup Champions.  Final 4 in the Euro league (the NBA of Europe).  First African American to coach in the club and in the country.  2003-05 Head Coach Aris of Greece. 2 times National Cup Finalist, 2003 Cup Champions, Head Coach All/Star game.
  • He was the first African American to coach in the club and in the country.  2005/2007: Head Coach Frankfurt Skyliners BBL - Germany.  2007/2008 Head Coach AEL Limassol, Cyprus.  National Cup Champions.  Final Four Euro/Challenge Cup.  Head Coach FIBA All/Star Game (World Team).
