Recognition
Alfonzo Washington was a standout at Rosary High School, graduating in 1959 where he was All City and a Catholic Diocese Star. He was Franklin County League 1959 leading scorer, all time leading scorer and rebounder at Rosary High School. Al started all four years at Rosary and afterward went on to play collegiate basketball at Otterbein College where he excelled in the classroom and on the hardwood and played on several recreation and AAU teams, winning multiple championships throughout Ohio 1960’s to early 1970’s while completing his undergraduate and post graduate studies at OSU. He competed in the top tier Columbus recreation leagues resulting in multiple championships and gold medals. Big Al was a pillar and leader in the community. Residing in the Linden area he was a stalwart for civil rights during the turbulent sixties. He was a mentor in basketball and life for future Columbus area basketball greats.
